This week I’ve been inspired by a fellow blogger and cooking recipes from a book that I bought with the best intentions a couple years ago, but haven’t used much —
The premise is a vegetarian based diet, with the “flexibility” of swapping beans and other proteins for meat. The author is a registered dietician and “closet meat-eater” Dawn Jackson Blatner.
The organized shopping lists are really helpful for a busy new mom that might need to send someone else to the grocery store. My husband very graciously took the printout for the week one shopping list, and with the help of supermarket employees, found most of the ingredients. I don’t expect him to spend an hour and a half searching out my shopping list each week, but this first week getting started was sooo appreciated. Thanks honey!
I do have to warn my readers that the recipes themselves do not really appeal to my carnivorous husband. I’ve decided to jump in anyway and let him try them once they are prepared. Maybe we will end up with some winners. I’ve been wanting to get more organized with our family meals and this book is a great help. In our house, we each cook our own meals and offer some to the other, but in my case, hubby is usually not interested in what I’ve made.
This division of meals is not going to work for us much longer as we have a new hungry little bird at the table with us. The lil carnivore is gearing up for more grown up foods. We only have a few purees left that he still likes. (like the gerber meats – gag) I’ve taken pics and made notes on the recipes as we try them, so stay tuned! My 11 month old’s reactions have been especially interesting.
Perhaps if you have stumbled upon my blog, you have already heard of this book, but if not, I highly recommend it for any vegetarian that shares their kitchen with a meat eater. I myself am not a “closet meat-eater” but maybe it is more common than I think among vegetarians?

Yay! I *knew* I wasn’t the only person who had a slew of books I rarely used! LOL It’s fun to discover them all over again, isn’t it?
